Basic Witches Shortbread Fingers

With Halloween here I thought it might be fun to put out a recipe for some quick and creepy cookies for the coming Halloween shenanigans. These will make a great centerpiece on a Halloween party table, or it’s perfect for tonight if you’re like me and don’t have children but want to have a low key night but still do something spooky.

The recipe is pretty straight forward, the trick is really in shaping them to make them look the part.

Recipe:

This should yield around 20 fingers, depending on the length of your fingers.

8 oz or 2 sticks Soft butter

½ C powdered sugar

1 ¾ C flour

¼ C cornstarch

½ t salt

Melted chocolate

Blanched skinned Almonds cut in half

Pre-heat the oven to 325 degrees F

In a stand mixer, mix the softened butter and powdered sugar till it is well incorporated. Add the flour, cornstarch, and salt and mix it together until the dough starts to form.

From my big blob of dough I then took a small ball about the size of a quarter and rolled it out into a log the length of a finger. Using my two fingers on either side I left it bulbus in the center of the log to create the knuckle. Once you have the part done place it on a baking tray lined with parchment. I repeated this several times over till the dough was used up.

Using the half almond I place the almond on the end of the now finger shaped log, I leave the pointer edge out so the nail looks sharp. I like to choose the end of the finger that is a bit thicker on one end to stick the almond onto because it looks more finger print shaped. Next I used the smallest sized round cookie cutter to create lines on the knuckle and the part of the finger closest to were the nail would be. The round shape is perfect for creating a circle shape on the knuckle. Then you bake at 325 for 8 minutes flip the tray around in the oven and bake another 7 minutes or till lightly browned. Let cool then using the melted chocolate create a gross brown cuticle around the almond.

Platter them up and show them off because you have just Crushed It!
